Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death from an infectious disease that kills around 4100 people every day and makes over 28,000 people sick.

24th March is observed as World TB Day every year to commemorate the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch declared his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of TB. Hence, World TB Day is celebrated throughout the world to educate and increase the awareness of TB as it can be prevented and cured. ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives” is the theme of World TB Day 2022 which focuses on the need for investing recourses to fight and end TB globally. This is more important in the ongoing scenario of the COVID pandemic as most of the healthcare resources have been focused on controlling the pandemic.

Efforts are needed to ensure equitable access to prevention and care and more investments are required so that more people can be reached out and millions of lives can be saved worldwide. (WHO, CDC)
